R. J. Horner opened his furniture shop around 1886 in New York City at 61-65 E. 23rd Street. Horner Brothers pieces are of the highst quality and quickly became one of the most well-known and collected furniture makers of the Victorian era. Horner Brothers furniture is best known for its magnificent dining sets, sideboards, and cabinets. Horner Brothers pieces are famous for their carved standing lions, winged griffins, carved egyptian sphynxes, claws in the paws, and elliptical shield/egg that is typical of Horner pieces in the center of the top crest.
